Abstract

Climate change poses significant threats to global agricultural productivity by increasing environmental stresses such as drought, heat exposure, and disease pressure on crop systems. Conventional breeding approaches face limitations in developing resilient crop varieties due to lengthy selection cycles and difficulties in identifying complex genetic traits. This study aims to examine the role of genomic approaches in revolutionizing crop breeding strategies for enhancing resilience to climate change. A mixed-methods research design was employed by integrating genomic data analysis, molecular marker evaluation, predictive assessment, and expert perspectives on biotechnology applications. The findings demonstrate that genomic selection, genome-wide association studies, molecular markers, and gene-editing technologies significantly improve the identification of adaptive traits and accelerate breeding efficiency. The results reveal that genetic variations, particularly SNP markers and quantitative trait loci, contribute substantially to predicting drought tolerance, heat resistance, and disease resilience. The study concludes that genomic approaches provide a transformative pathway for developing climate-resilient crops by combining precision biotechnology with sustainable agricultural strategies. The integration of genomic innovation, computational analysis, and practical breeding applications is essential for strengthening future food security under changing environmental conditions.
