Abstract

Agro-industrial waste represents a significant environmental challenge while simultaneously containing valuable bioactive compounds with potential applications in food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmetic industries. The development of sustainable extraction strategies is increasingly required to replace conventional methods associated with excessive solvent consumption, high energy demand, and environmental limitations. This study aimed to analyze the potential of green extraction technologies for recovering high-value bioactive compounds from agro-industrial waste and to evaluate their technological efficiency, sustainability performance, and industrial applicability. A systematic review and comparative analytical approach were employed by examining scientific publications related to ultrasound-assisted extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, enzyme-assisted extraction, supercritical fluid extraction, and deep eutectic solvent-based extraction. The findings revealed that green extraction technologies improved bioactive compound recovery, reduced processing time, minimized solvent utilization, and enhanced environmental compatibility compared with traditional extraction approaches. The effectiveness of each technology was influenced by waste composition, target compound characteristics, and optimization of extraction parameters. The study concludes that green extraction technologies provide a strategic pathway for transforming agro-industrial residues into valuable resources within circular bioeconomy systems. Future development should emphasize process integration, industrial scalability, and advanced optimization approaches to maximize sustainable bioactive compound recovery.
