Background. Art has long been recognized as a form of cultural expression, reflecting societal values, norms, and historical contexts. In the age of globalization and digital technology, contemporary visual culture has seen a significant shift in the way art is produced, consumed, and interpreted. The rapid evolution of media and the expanding scope of global interactions have influenced the aesthetics and meanings embedded in visual art, challenging traditional notions of culture and expression.

Purpose. The aim of this study is to explore the role of art as a cultural expression in contemporary visual culture. Specifically, it seeks to examine how aesthetic practices in visual art reflect social meanings and engage with the complexities of modern identity, politics, and globalization. The research also aims to identify how these practices contribute to cultural dialogue and the formation of social meaning.

Method. This research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing a combination of case studies, visual analysis, and cultural theory. The study analyzes a range of contemporary artworks from different media, focusing on how they engage with cultural narratives and social issues.

Results. The study finds that contemporary visual art serves as a powerful tool for expressing complex social identities, addressing political issues, and fostering cultural exchange. The analysis reveals a shift towards more inclusive, participatory, and multi-layered aesthetic practices.

Conclusion. The research concludes that art in contemporary visual culture plays a vital role in both reflecting and shaping social meanings. Its aesthetic practices provide an important means for individuals and communities to navigate and engage with the complexities of the modern world.
